The  Rule of the Secular Franciscan Order

Chapter II: The Way of Life

The rule and life of the Secular Franciscans is this: to observe the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ by following the example of Saint Francis of Assisi, who made Christ the inspiration and the center of  his life with God and people.

Christ, the gift of the Father's love, is the way to him, the truth into which the Holy Spirit leads us, and the life which he has come  to give abundantly.

Secular Franciscans should devote themselves especially to careful reading of the gospel, going from gospel to life and life to the gospel.

The Franciscan Coat of Arms is a  universal symbol of the Franciscans.  It contains the Tau Cross, the official sign of the Secular Franciscan Order, with two crossed arms: Christ’s right hand with the nail wound, and Francis’ left hand the stigmata wound.

The Secular Franciscan Order is a part of the larger Franciscan family of the Catholic Church.  Previously referred to as the Third Order, it is primarily comprised of lay men and women wishing to dedicate their lives to following the Gospel , in the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Clare.

The Blessed Junipero Serra Regional Fraternity is one of 30 regional fraternities throughout the United States and itself is organized into 27 local fraternities, which are grouped into three areas in Northern and Central California and Northern Nevada.  The Region is both geographically and culturally diverse, including Spanish-speaking and Korean-speaking fraternities.
